Creative study in an innovative environment
The history of film in Australia goes back as far as the
history of the world film industry – Australia produced the
first-ever true feature-length film.
Today, the Australian industry is internationally recognised as
providing a range of skills and talents from locations to animation
to acting and production.
Australian graduates are working both in front of, and behind,
the camera on the world stage. Australian films, television
programs, music and multimedia are using new technologies, with
Australian research at the leading edge.
When you study in Australia, you’ll benefit from this exciting,
innovative environment. Australian universities and vocational
institutes have world-class film and television production
facilities for student use.
Australian institutions offer hundreds of programs in areas
related to film, design, media, multimedia, arts, music, dance and
theatre.
Multicultural film-making
With its Indigenous and multicultural background, Australian
film-making provides a unique opportunity. Indigenous stories have
come to the fore in the last few years, alongside a range of other
cultural films. The Indian film industry (Bollywood) is adding to
the multicultural mix, having filmed around 80 movies in Australia
and used its post-production facilities.
You can tap into your own country's community within Australia
and also gain a greater understanding of the diversity of
Australian culture. Unlike many other countries, Australia has a
foreign language television channel, SBS, which presents programs
and films from around the world.
